My name is Georgia Gersh.
I was born and raised in the mountains
North of Taos, New Mexico.
I grew up on the Magic Tortoise Commune.
My parents both escaped to Taos as part of the
counter culture movement in the late 1960's,
my dad from New York State and my mom
from San Francisco.
My dad is the well-known abstract expressionist
Bill Gersh. He died in '94, but his legacy and brilliance
live on in his work.
My mother is still Queen of the Hippies at 85. She is a
prolific, well collected and admired watercolorist and
creative of many sorts.
...and so the rich artistic tradition of the Southwest
is quite literally in my blood.

I opened magpie in 2014 to create a venue
for some of the hundreds of artists living and working
in Taos, many that were yet to be discovered.
I currently represent 50 regional artists, nearly all living
and working in Taos County.

Focused on small and functional, as well as affordable work, magpie really does have something for everyone; from handmade soaps, candles and jewelry to an incredible selection of usable and decorative ceramic work, to folk art and fine art and much in between.
